Come & Sing!

We host two to three Come & Sing events per year.  Our next events will be a Good Friday Come & Sing on the 18th of April 2025 and a Harvest Come & Sing on the 12th of October 2025.

Good Friday Come & Sing 18th April 2025

We are inviting people to join us to work on excerpts from Handel's 'Messiah', during an afternoon choral workshop with St. Anne's Church Choir and members of Bel Canto, and then to sing these as part of a special Good Friday Evensong at 6.00pm.

Musical Director: Claire De la Haye
Soloists: Diana Neal and Richard Manuel
Organist: Dorothy Davis
Workshop pianist: Linda Gray

During an afternoon Come & Sing workshop we will work on and prepare the choruses 'Behold the Lamb of God', 'Surely He Hath Borne Our Griefs' and 'All We Like Sheep Have Gone Astray' from Part II of 'Messiah', culminating in the extraordinarily beautiful 'Worthy is the Lamb' and the 'Amens' from the end of Part III.  Our soloists also will be singing 'He Was Despised', 'Behold and See', 'He Was Cut Off' and 'But Thou Didst Not Leave His Soul in Hell'.

To participate fully, singers will need some familiarity with the work and/or be reasonably comfortable with sight reading.  Equally, people are welcome to attend the workshop as observers.  Please bring your own score (these can be purchased secondhand very inexpensively from Amazon or EBay).

Afternoon tea with homemade cakes will be served half way through the workshop to provide an opportunity to chat with fellow singers and give a boost to energy levels!

The timings for the Workshop and Choral Evensong are as follows:
1.00pm Doors open
1.30pm Workshop Start
3.30pm Afternoon Tea
4.00pm Workshop continues
5.30 Workshop ends
6.00pm Choral Evensong with Messiah Excerpts, led by Reverend Graham Duncan, Associate Vicar at St. Anne's

There is no fee to participate in the workshop, however any donations to our church music fund are welcome.

How to register:  please contact Claire De la Haye at claire.delahaye@hotmail.co.uk, stating your voice part (SATB) to enable us to set up for the expected numbers in each voice part on the day.

Less confident singers may wish to come along to Church Choir rehearsals in the run up to this event, where we will be working section by section through the score and learning the notes.  Rehearsals are at 6.30pm each Tuesday evening for an hour, and entry is via the Vestry Door.  All welcome.
